13 June 2017: Voting assets have now been emailed to all #voteBTA17 nominees, so now is an opportune time to remind this year's contenders of the rules regarding how you lobby customers for votes.

The British Travel Awards has a very strict policy for the use of prize incentives to influence the public to vote for a specific company or brand… DON’T!

The only voting incentive allowed under British Travel Awards rules is promotion of the official Voters’ Prize Draw. Nominees are invited to become official prize draw partners (for details email lorraine@britishtravelawards.com) and benefit from additional consumer promotion via:

  • Trinity Mirror newspapers and online content
  • Made Television
  • E-newsletters to British Travel Awards past voters

You are encouraged to use the Voters’ Prize Draw as a voting incentive when lobbying your customers - but you must not suggest winning a prize is subject to voting for your company or brand.


Acceptable phrasing would be:

"Vote in the British Travel Awards for your chance to win a great holiday prize".


Unacceptable phrasing would be:

"Vote for [your company/brand] for your chance to win a great holiday prize".

Do not offer a third-party inducement

Do not offer an independent prize or incentive, conditional upon or associated with, voting for a specific company or brand in the British Travel Awards. This action is in contravention of British Travel Awards rules and could fall foul of the Bribery Act. Any companies found to disregard these conditions of entry will be disqualified, their votes excluded from the final count and their registration fee forfeited.


The British Travel Awards is renowned for the fairness and integrity applied to the voting process. It is this rigour that makes winning a British Travel Award such a prized accolade within the travel industry and consumers recognise as the symbol of satisfaction.
