03 April 2017: Nominations for the British Travel Awards 2017 have opened and travel companies can now apply for listing on the 2017 consumer voting form. This year airline categories are being re-introduced, so voters will be able to vote across a complete range of travel services.
There will be 143 awards in total, covering 73 categories with 35 of the awards being graded by size, enabling specialist, niche and smaller enterprises to be recognised by their customers. The three new airline awards will be for Best European Airline, Best Transatlantic Airline and Best Eastbound Longhaul Airline. Nominations are open until 31st May with consumer voting commencing in July.
BTA CEO Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “The sooner travel companies get registered to be listed on the BTA nomination form the more time they have to plan their lobbying campaign to get the all important customers votes. It’s very easy to register; the winners are determined solely by the number of consumer votes received – no submissions to write, judges to impress or nerve wracking interviews!
“During the 2016 BTAs voting period 1, 332,516 votes and opinions were cast – that is incredible exposure for any brand. Our national media partners at Trinity Mirror Solutions play a big part in extending our audience reach and we will again be working with city television station Made Television to promote voting and to televise the actual awards ceremony.
“It’s now ten years since the BTAs became the largest consumer voted awards ceremony in travel. Our core values of integrity, transparency and credibility have made the BTAs the most recognised and valued awards programme for both the travel industry and the all-important voting consumers. Our continued development of rigorous vote collation procedures are enhanced year on year via our partnership with awards verification partners and scrutineers, Deloitte.”
