Hotels Brands - Definition

With no unifying star rating system to define hotel attributes globally the Hotel and Resort Brand awards are segregated by STR market class analysis. This is an industry categorization based upon average room rates and includes both chain-affiliated and independent hotels. An independent hotel’s market class is determined by the average daily rate, relative to that of chain-affiliated hotels in its geographic proximity.

 

There are six recognised market class groups:

  • Luxury
  • Upper Upscale
  • Upscale
  • Upper Midscale
  • Midscale
  • Economy

For the British Travel Awards we use the collapsed market class model by combining groups as:

Eligibilty

 

Open to chain-affiliated and independent hotels operating under one identity. Groups operating multiple brands should enter them individually. These categories are also open to companies who represent collections of independent hotels and market them under a common identity.

Companies that market self-catering holiday accommodation with UK, Europe and oversea properties in their portfolio.

Size graded award

  • Large - More 2,500 rental untis referenced on website
  • Medium - 400 to 2,500 rental units referenced on website
  • Small - Fewer than 400 rental units referenced on website

A64 - Best Chalet/Winter Sports Accommodation Provider

Chalet and lodgings booking companies who offer accommodation only or include transport separately via a third party supplier.

Size graded award

  • Large - More than 25,000 guests per year
  • Medium - 2,500 to 25,000 guests per year
  • Small - Fewer than 2,500 guests per year

As defined by STR market class analysis: Luxury and Upper Upscale.

A66 - Best Upscale Hotel Brand

As defined by STR market class analysis: Upscale.

A67 - Best Midscale Plus Hotel Brand
